IT TAKES A VILLAGE: GWEN MADIBA LAUNCHES A PROGRAM FOR BLACK MOTHERS AND PREGNANT WOMEN

Being a mother comes with its sets of challenges. Gwen Madiba can attest to this as she experienced it firsthand when her son was born with feeding difficulties. Gwen Madiba fed her son with an NG tube for a year and went through challenging times with little help. Through Equal Chance, this fall she launched the "It takes a village" program and was able to obtain over 100 items from members of the community. The greatest amount of items came from Mrs.Sonia Koller through the Otto's group (Otto's BMW and Otto's Subaru) who offered a wide range of items for mothers and their children.

While doing meals deliveries through her Meals for Hope program, Gwen discovered the hard realities faced by many low income mothers and pregnant women in the community. She met two mothers who slept on the floor with their children on a thin mattress. Thanks to a community of giving people, her team at Equal Chance was able to get brand new beds/bed sets for the mothers and other items such as food and sofas.
